One clear asset a Health Care Delivery System has is its own wealth of information from which it should draw from to improve outcomes.
This is where all previous topics converge. In order to provide traditional and new programs, an organization's information technology must be:
- Efficient
- Modern
- Understood by management
- Flexible and adaptable
- Powerful
- ...and most of all, it must be challenged.
Attempting to rely on a decrepit IT system is like building on an inadequate foundation. Suffice to say all competitive organizations devote significant resources annually to the maintenance and upgrade of their IT program. It is important to include medical, pharmacy, and other department input when addressing these requirements; unfortunately, many Health Care Delivery Systems do not take this prudent step, and suffer significantly for it.
